Protests in Ukraine in July 2025
In July 2025, Ukraine witnessed a wave of public demonstrations sparked by Law 12414, a controversial proposal widely seen as a threat to the independence of anti-corruption institutions. These institutions are among the most significant achievements of Ukraine’s post-2014 reforms and a vital pillar of its European integration path.
On July 22, the first large gathering took place in Lviv and other cities across Ukraine, where citizens filled the city center to demand transparency and accountability. The message was clear: weakening anti-corruption bodies would jeopardize years of democratic progress. The protests continued for several days despite President Zelensky’s pledge on July 24 to amend the law and preserve institutional independence.
